Lanzarote Airport: Car rental (no deposit, no credit card required) [GUIDE]

Lanzarote is an island full of extraordinary landscapes. Volcanic lava fields, rugged mountains, golden beaches, and small towns with distinctive white buildings. Many of the most interesting sites are located in different parts of the island, so renting a car at Lanzarote Airport (ACE) is a convenient way to start exploring after your arrival. By car, you can easily reach places like Timanfaya National Park, Jameos del Agua, Mirador del Rio, Playa Blanca, and the picturesque beaches around Papagayo.

In this guide, I'll show you how to find a car rental at Lanzarote Airport, compare available offers, and choose the right car for your needs. I also explain how to find rentals without a deposit or credit card, and what to look for in the terms and conditions regarding deposit, insurance, and car pickup. This will help you avoid unnecessary costs and surprises when picking up your car.

If questions and doubts arise during the search, look for answers further in the text. The text is long and contains a lot of useful information. I divided it into several logical parts and included links to them at the end of the post. I consciously constructed it this way. You can read it piece by piece, selecting the part that interests you, or read it in its entirety. However, the most important thing is to search quickly.

Before you drive around Lanzarote

Right-hand traffic
In Lanzarote, as in Poland, there is right-hand traffic.

Road tolls
There are no toll roads or expressways on Lanzarote. All major routes, including those leading to popular resorts and tourist attractions, are free. Therefore, there's no need to purchase a toll sticker or factor tolls into your travel budget.

Speed limits
In Spain, speed limits are expressed in kilometers per hour (km/h). Standard limits for passenger cars are 120 km/h on motorways and expressways, 90 km/h on roads outside built-up areas, and 20, 30, or 50 km/h depending on the road type in built-up areas. Always pay attention to local signs, as lower limits apply on some stretches.

Local roads and access to attractions
Most roads in Lanzarote are in good condition, and navigating the island shouldn't pose any major problems. However, you may encounter narrower roads in smaller towns and on the way to some attractions. Be especially careful on routes through volcanic terrain and don't drive onto unpaved roads without checking the rental car's terms and conditions. Keep in mind that damage incurred while driving off-road may not be covered by your insurance.

Alcohol while driving
In Spain, the legal blood alcohol limit is 0,5‰ (0,25 mg/l in breath). For novice and professional drivers, the lower limit is 0,3‰. The safest solution is to completely abstain from alcohol before driving.

Car equipment
It is worth making sure that your car is equipped with a V-16 hazard warning light, which is mandatory for vehicles registered in Spain from 1 January 2026.

Material liability, insurance, own contribution, deposits and deposits

When the rental company hands over the car to you, you are also responsible for its condition for the duration of the rental. It's clear!
What is the scope of this responsibility? It's not so clear anymore!

Financial responsibility is mandatory, but can it be significantly reduced? Or maybe you can throw it away completely?
It's possible, but you have to see how!

Additional charges and their reasons

Additional fees incurred when renting a car (especially those charged after the car is returned) are often a source of frustration for many rental customers. They can be prevented, but first you need to know where such fees come from and what may be their cause. I gathered situations I knew together in one text and described them. It's really worth reading this post!
