Why the Justin Bieber canyon?

The story is trivial. In 2015, the music video for the song "I'll Show You"Performed by Justin Bieber. The largest part of the video was shot in the Fjadrargljufur canyon, which looks really nice in the pictures.
Due to the fact that the original name of the canyon is inhumanly difficult to remember (I omit the attempt to pronounce it), and the world likes simplification and quick and easy communication, the name of Justin Bieber's Canyon stuck to it in a split second.
The music video has almost half a billion (!!!) views on YouTube. We didn't have to wait long for the effects.
Half the world went mad about the canyon immediately and the number of visitors increased dramatically. The tourist load on the canyon has become so large that in 2018 the canyon was closed ... fortunately only for a while, needed for nature regeneration.
Since then, the canyon is periodically closed to tourist traffic when the state of nature requires it, and it is opened when the nature regenerates.
Disruptions in access to the canyon last at least several weeks. Currently, the wave of greatest popularity after the release of the music video is slowly declining and it may not be necessary to close the canyon with time.

I encourage you to see the photos of Fjadrargljufur in the famous music video. I share it below. It's really nice to watch.

Let's go back to the Fjadrargljufur canyon

There was once a glacier in the place where we can now admire the canyon. As it melted, it retreated inland, and the water flowing downwards carried with it fine rock material which, in the soft rock, stubbornly, deeper and deeper carved the bottom of the canyon.
Today, the highest rock walls are up to 100 meters high. The rocks in which it was carved are 2 million years old, and the process of retreating the glacier and carving the canyon has been going on for about 10 years.

Parking and visiting the Fjadrargljufur canyon

There is a small parking lot near the canyon, from which there are walking paths along the canyon. One of the paths goes up along the edge of the canyon. It is also possible to walk down the canyon bottom. There are three viewpoints on the route of the upper path, which I have marked on the map.
If you come here when the canyon is closed to visitors, you will still be able to see it from a special viewing platform.
The map with the location of the car park and the course of the upper path is provided below.

Fjadrargljufur canyon - map of the walk, location of viewpoints and parking lot.

Walking along the path marked on the map to all three viewpoints will take you about 60 minutes. Off-road shoes will come in handy.
