Barcelona – Where to Sleep? The Best Districts and Hotels!

Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona without the accommodation blunder

Barcelona tempts you with everything: the sea, modernism, medieval corners, and food. But before you immerse yourself in all these wonders, you have to make an important decision that can either make your experience of the city easier or harder: where to stay in Barcelona?
In this guide, I'll walk you through choosing a neighborhood that suits your style of sightseeing, show you what's nearby, and advise you on what to watch out for (noise, transportation, fees). You'll also find a list of hotels in three price ranges: budget, mid-range, and luxury.

Map and orientation (how to think about the city)

Everything always looks simpler when you can rely on a clear and readable map. Before you move on to choosing a district and hotel, be sure to take a look at the two maps I've prepared.
The first one shows the location of the most important sightseeing points in the city and comes from my Barcelona guide – [click] (I recommend reading it before your trip).

Barcelona - map of tourist attractions

The second map shows the locations of all the districts of Barcelona, superimposed with my guidebook's sightseeing route. I've highlighted the districts in pink where I recommend finding accommodation.
In this incredibly quick, simple and illustrative way, you can decide in just a few moments which district will be most comfortable for you to live in.

Barcelona sightseeing plan on a map of the city's districts.
A – Barri Gotic and the port area
B – Eixample (the backbone of modernism)
C – Gracia and the Park Guell area
D – Poblenou and the eastern coast
E – Montjuic and the southwest

Characteristics of districts and hotels

Of course, I realize that before you decide on where to stay, it's worth learning a little about each district. Before suggesting specific hotels, I've prepared some brief, highly concise information about each district. It should definitely help you make your final choice of where to stay in Barcelona.

WARNING!!!
There are many hotels in Barcelona, so the hotels I've selected aren't the only ones I recommend. I've designed the filter links so that my chosen hotel appears first, but below it, you'll see other options similar in price and location. Prices in Barcelona are rather high and change rapidly (you might find that a mid-range hotel is cheaper than a theoretically cheaper hotel on your chosen date). By selecting specific dates, it's possible that a similar hotel nearby will be significantly cheaper than the one I'm suggesting at the same time. This is the power of my filter links. They present the offer you're interested in and many interesting alternatives nearby. Using them makes it much easier and faster to find accommodation in a specific location and price range without the hassle of filling out search fields. Use them! It's simple and convenient.
